9 Year Old Succumbs To Meningitis

Tonight, the Belmopan community is mourning the death of 9 year old Jayce Brown - who died from a bacterial meningitis infection.

He passed away this morning after being declared brain dead yesterday.

One other child a - 5 year old boy - from his day care center - has also presented symptoms consistent with meningitis - but he is being treated and has not developed complications.

The Ministry of Education today noted, "Jayce will be remembered for his bright spirit, enthusiasm for learning and the positive impact he made on his peers and the United Evergreen education community."

So far no other cases have been confirmed, but all children who shared physical space with the two boys are being monitored.
