And while the last minute Christmas shopping continues, the commissioner of police told us more about this year's public and property safety campaign they've launched to keep crime under control during the holidays. Here's how the commissioner and his officers will be keeping you safe this Christmas weekend.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of police
"We have our usual anti-crime campaign it is being done across the country and we try to focus primarily within the commercial areas. We know that there are a number of persons who are busy doing their Christmas shootings and we want to ensure that they do their shopping in a safe environment as well as those merchants who are engaged in the sale of goods for Christmas we want them to do so in a safe environment so our anti crime campaign is ongoing and we have a team who comes back in the evening times from six to ten to assist to compliment the team that is working to make sure we can cover as much grounds as we can all in an effort to make Belizeans safe. Likewise on our highways we continue to work in tandem with the department of transport in making sure we have adequate highway patrols and from time to time we do stop vehicles and search thoroughly for drugs, firearms or human trafficking victims or human smuggling victims. All in an effort to make the roadways safe likewise for those persons who use it and most importantly to minimize the traffic fatalities on our highways."
