And while police will focus on public safety - who's looking out for the men and women who patrol the borders, the BDF?
Today, the Belize Territorial Volunteers partnered with a group of Belizeans to bring some Christmas cheer to the Soldiers stationed at the Sarstoon. The BTV led the way, taking fruits, cake and beverages, all part of an early Christmas surprise, to show their appreciation for the soldiers guarding our borders.
Sally Lou Young, Volunteer

"I feel very blessed to have made it all this way from New York because of course I live in Brooklyn. I am originally from Corozal, born and raised, you know, in Belize. So this is really a good feeling to know that our troops out here protecting the border and also that you, Mr. Wil Maheia, brought us here on a safe journey, you know. So to our people at home and abroad, please take a trip out here and look at what's going on in our beautiful country and try to get involved."
Wil Maheia, BTV
"I just want to say, you know, big up to Minister Marin for grant us permission to come here and give some Christmas cheers to the soldiers who protect our borders. You know, also so pleased and so impressed to see the work that's being done on the forward operating base."

"I mean, this is amazing and every Belizean that have been to the Sarstoon before have to feel proud because after all it's the people pressure that basically I think make them, make the investment to rebuild our base and it's a beautiful looking base right now."
"It's being built to last a long time. And again, you know, thanks to Minister Marin for pushing this and thanks to the Prime Minister for coming. He came himself and you know, I think all that is what add up to government to really put the resources to protect our areas."
"Look, the area that we're in, it's so beautiful. There's like abundant bird life, abundant fish life, everything. So, you know, we have to take care of it that, you know, and all who helped to take care of it. I just want to say thanks to them and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone."
