A man accused of being a serial Facebook fraudster was taken to Belize City Magistrate's Court yesterday - and then sent to the Cayo police station for investigation into acts of fraud there. And after that, the cops in Dangriga want to see him!

Austin Alexander Williams allegedly sold a woman a couch set on Facebook for $1,450 dollars, but she got no couch!

The 26-year-old Hattieville resident appeared unrepresented in the Belize City Magistrate's Court was read a single charge of theft. He pleaded not guilty and police told the magistrate he is wanted in Dangriga and Cayo for similar allegations. Despite the Prosecution's objection to bail, the Chief Magistrate offered bail to Williams in the sum of $4,000 dollars.

Yvonne Eck Wade, of Neals Penn Road told police that she saw a sofa on sale on the Belize Buy & Sell page. It was posted by "Nailea Nunez" and Wade says when she communicated with the seller, she said that the sofá was available but it was in Placencia.

Wade agreed to purchase it - and days later, Wade said she spoke to a man who claimed to be. The seller's "husband". He gave her an Atlantic Bank account number where Wade deposited 1,450 dollars.

And while she paid the money, the couch never appeared. The phone number she contacted was traced to the accused.
