A man remains hospitalized after he was shot near the northern border attempting to flee from customs and police. Jomarie Lanza found out more about this story today:

A contraband crossing gone wrong at the northern border escalated into a shootout between customs and a resident of Chan Chen village. 32 year old Elmer Keme was reportedly driving his green pickup truck from the Santa Rosa river bank when he encountered MIT personnel and customs conducting operations in the area. A police officer had yelled out to Keme to stop but instead he picked up speed and drove off. Police then began to fire shots at the truck, which led him to swerve off into some bushes and come to a stop.

Keme then exited the vehicle and attempted to run off but police intercepted him. That's when they realized that Keme was bleeding from his head and shoulder area and so they rushed him to the Corozal community hospital. ACP Romero gave us more details today.
