And while the police investigate, the City Council along with the Ministry responsible for Local Government now has a tough task ahead of them: replacing Stephanie Lindo-Garbutt. As we mentioned before, her job was ensuring the city ran smoothly. But the mayor told us today that he hasn't even begun to think of who can possibly take up the mantle after such a sudden loss.

Bernard Wagner, Mayor-Elect, Belize City

"In respect to filling the post, I have not had time to really think about filling the post because you're processing so much, right now I don't even have time to think like who we would recommend for replacement. Currently, they Ministry of Local government, given that the municipality falls under their jurisdiction, we have had discussions and so in the interim so as to continue operation of the city, we have to have someone there responsible and we, along with the local government, have appointed Sharlene Rudon to fill this transition period for us so as to ensure that the operations of the city continues and that the swearing in occurs without any hiccups."

A release from the Ministry of Local Government says she was a "vital link between City Hall, council staff, elected officials, including the Department of Local Government, national, regional, and international partners."
