For weeks, we've been following the story of a young woman from Seine Bight who has had a harrowing year at the hands of her violent ex-boyfriend. The alleged abuser has broken the restraining order and attacked her multiple times. Yesterday the ComPol blamed the judiciary, saying that he doesn't know what they are waiting for, and why they repeatedly give the suspect bail. He even said that perhaps another magistrate would have handled that case differently.

Well, tonight we have a different take on that. Reliable reports to us from the courtroom are that the police are the ones to blame for his bail. And that's because the police prosecutor did not object to bail for the breach of the protection order.

And then, the police brought additional charges and took the accused to the Belmopan Magistrate's Court instead of the one in Independence or even Dangriga. However, in Belmopan, they met the same Magistrate who dealt with the matter in the Independence Court since she had just been transferred. There it was noted that the two additional charges are what caused the breach of the protection order and comprised an abuse of the system, since the police should have objected to bail in the very first instance.

So fingers are being pointed in both directions, and in the middle of it, a young woman is still fearing for her life while her abuser walks the streets. We will keep following this story.
