So those last three stories - two of them resulting in deaths - are domestic in nature - and at least two of them are motivated by pure jealousy. Indeed, this is a strong driver of violence in dysfunctional relationships.

And, the commissioner says it's also what's driving the 40% increase in murders so far this year.

Based on an internal commander's reports which 7News has obtained, we challenged the commissioner on that. Here's the exchange:

Jules Vasquez:
"You said that it's motivated by a woman. I know that you have been pushing I believe, a false narrative that jealousy you said on Channel five has been the motive behind 70% of the murders, which, you know, to be factually untrue because your own statistics say that only one murder, of the 31 this year has been motivated by jealousy."

"That's what your statistics say. Forgive me. Okay. So but you will know also try and put this as jealousy being the motive."

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Jules, I don't know where you get that statistics from. I am sure that the other members of the media who reports on these murders will attest that most of the murders we have had this year are motivated by jealousy."

Jules Vasquez:
"Sir, that isn't true. You know that your own report. You want me to read the report, sir?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"I don't know who produced that report, but something may be wrong with you and who produced it."

"But for sure we have had most of our murders, either women motive motivated or alcohol related. The gang killings are the least amount of murders we have had so far this year."

After the interview, we shared our information with the commissioner and he said what we have is not their official release and he has no idea where our one came from.
