But the commissioner didnt argue about the murder statistics on that same document. As of April 8th - there were 30 murders so far for 2024, and 31 as of today. Thats a 40% increase and we asked the commissioner what theyre gonna do about it:
Jules Vasquez:
"So youre up 40% from last year at 31 compared to 22 this time of year. I know that you watch these numbers very carefully. What next?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Majority of the killings were having now is outside the police preventative reach."
"And if you want to be fair and honest, you will accept that. But being the controversial person you are, you feeds on negativity. You will not accept that. From a policing standpoint, we continue to do what we can to prevent those murders that we can prevent. We dont know who is sleeping with whose woman. We dont know what friends are thinking when they go out and drink and one get drunk and decide to kill the other."
"We do not know when a man and a woman have an issue inside a host and one kill the other like we we saw in Corozal. These are things we do not know. So we cannot prevent those some happening, but those that are within the realm of the police prevention. We are doing what we can to prevent them."
