A 64 uncle has been sent to jail for 19 years for molesting his 13 year old niece.
To protect the minor we cannot show his picture or share his name - but he was convicted of two counts of incest and two counts of sexual assault.
He was today sentenced to two prison terms of 19 years and 6 months sentence for two counts of incest and two 5 year sentences for two counts of sexual assault. The sentences are to run concurrently so he will only serve 19 years six months instead of 40 years.
At his sentencing this morning, the uncle - who had defended himself - had nothing to say and he called no character witnesses to speak on his behalf. The judge also shared the victim impact statement in court but the uncle still showed no remorse and just sat motionless in the dock.
For his part he told the court that he didn't do it - and blamed the girl's father. Justice Nanton told the uncle that she rejected his version of events and and that the victim who testified at the age of 16 "In camera" testimony could not be shaken and in her view her evidence was credible throughout the entire trial.
