Last night, a double murder took the life of 20-year-old Marvin Pook and 30-year-old Anthony Young. The pair was targeted at their regular hangout spot on North Creek. Reports are that they might have been killed over a prior altercation.
But for Pook's family, they can't figure out why someone would want him dead. Courtney Menzies spoke with his grandmother today and has this story.
At 7:390 last night, 20-year-old Marvin Pook and 30-year-old Anthony Young were sitting on this bench when gunshots rang out, killing them. The two could be found at that location often, especially since Pook's girlfriend lived next to the basketball court. And that's why whoever targeted them knew exactly where to look.
ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"They were sitting on a chair near the basketball court when a motorcycle arrived with two persons, one of them got off the motorcycle and came close to them and fired several shots towards their direction causing their fatal injuries. We have some persons in custody at this time and the investigation continues."
But Pook's family believes he was innocently murdered. His grandmother said she hoped he'd pull through because, to her knowledge, he has done nothing wrong.

Sherlette Lamb, Grandmother of Deceased
"I got a clothes to haul on and I got on my bicycle and I rode to the hospital and after the fact that I went there, I would have felt the greater feeling to say, ma'am, he lived but after I learnt that he passed away, I could have done nothing else but break down and cry. It's really and truly terrifying for us because my grandson is not a person affiliated with any gang member, he's not a person being a bad guy in the street, doing things to different people and stuff. He's always been an obedient child. what he does when he's out there, nothing has to do with us, and it's beyond our control and I don't believe that he had done anything wrong because we always guided him on the right path."
But according to police, this double murder stemmed from a fight the day before.
ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"The information we gathered so far, there was a fight yesterday involving these persons and that is the information we are getting, somebody came after them."
Courtney Menzies:
"Are these young men known to police?"

ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"Yes they are known to police."
Courtney Menzies:
"Do you know what led to the fight yesterday?"
ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"No, we are following up on that to determine what the fight was about."
Courtney Menzies:
"The suspects who you're looking for are people who were involved in the fight as well?"
ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"That is correct."
But Pook's involvement in a fight may come as a shock to his grandmother since she said he didn't really like crowds:
Sherlette Lamb, Grandmother of Deceased
"He was a jovial person, he would go at your house, sit down, at first he would be cool, and then he would work his way through to get around the crowd, because he doesn't like crowds like that, he just likes to be alone and that's my grandson. he would always be on his phone playing games, if it's not games then it's music. He wasn't a bad person like that."
"We, as in my daughter, my granddaughter and me, we're not coping with it like that, easy. I have to be the stronger person for her and my granddaughter but my other family, they feel it too. They felt it. That's a great loss."
Both Pook and Young were also involved in another fight last year, while Pook was a BDF soldier. During the altercation, Young was stabbed, and Pook was injured with rubber bullets fired by police to stop the commotion.
Both worked as call center agents.
Despite nearby police presence, ACP Romero said that the gunmen fled the scene quickly.
