Today the trial of 31-year-old Kenrick Longsworth, the man who is accused of sexually assaulting and beating his three stepsons - and killing one of them - began in court.
Back in January 2020, Longsworth was left at home alone with 3-year-old Mark Teul, 4-year-old Zemark Teul, and 2-year-old Markeem Teul. By the time the children's mother returned home, little Mark was lying lifeless in the living room with multiple cuts, bruises, and signs of sexual assault. His siblings also had various injuries to their bodies.
It's a case that would leave any mother traumatized and emotional. At the start of the trial, before Justice Derick Sylvester in the High Court, she was being cross-examined by defense attorney, Andrew Bennett. Bennett questioned whether it was she who hit the children and caused the death of her own son since Longsworth allegedly broke up with her.
She denied the allegations, but her emotions were already running high. So before she left the stand, she asked the judge if she could ask a question. When the judge told her no, she uttered angry words and stormed out of the court. She was asked to come back in, and the judge told her while he understood her emotional state, her behavior was disrespectful to the court.
She apologized before leaving the courtroom. The trial will continue tomorrow at 11.
