A cop accused of fondling a minor in September of 2023 is spending his first night of a 2 year jail sentence tonight.
Fondling a 17 year old has cost him his freedom after the 17-year-old victim, a student testified in court which sealed the conviction. The Chief Magistrate sentenced him to 2 years telling him that he ought to have known better being a member of the Department.
In court today, Canul asked the court to consider him and his family as he has 2 stepsons and 1 son with his wife at home. Notably, during the trial which started in early May, Canul never put up a defense and never apologized to the victim. Today, after the verdict, he asked for time to see his family.
The 17-year-old reported to police that whilst at the Lopez Mateo Park Police Booth returning a Belizean flag she had borrowed from her cadet instructor, Canul passed by her and squeezed her buttocks.
