The Belize Peace Movement senses that elections could be called soon - and the group is doing all it can to stop the election from proceeding without first having a re-districting exercise.

The group wrote to the governor general two days ago noting that the consent order which the government has committed to is before the court where the Peace Movement is asking for enforcement.

Chairman Bobby Lopez writes, "While this matter continues toward resolution in the High Court, we are aware that the Prime Minister may…advise your high office to dissolve the Legislature in order to hold general Elections. We anticipate that this Prime Ministerial power might be used with contempt for relevant litigation…Your Excellency…We respectfully urge that should the Prime Minister advise your office to dissolve the National Assembly prior to the conclusion of the said litigation in the High Court, that you invoke your power under the Belize Constitution…(which says) "if the Prime Minister advises a dissolution and the Governor-General, acting in his own deliberate judgment, considers that the Government of Belize can be carried on without a dissolution and that a dissolution would not be in the interests of deliberate judgment, refuse to dissolve the National Assembly." End quote.

At court today, the peace movement's attorney said he's putting his faith in the court:

Saldivar has asked the court to strike out schedule one of the representation of the people act.
