And this murder came only three days after the Belize River Valley area received a brand new truck for police patrols. The Minister of Home Affairs spoke last week about new and increased officers at the stations. Well, that didn't help the Magana family last night. Today - he said the community can expect the enhanced patrols to continue.
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
"Yes I saw the report in the media and I spoke with the commissioner of police this morning. It is a very disturbing incident by all accounts so far it seems to be a law abiding citizen and a family that was attacked and targeted by two gunmen. I know that the police are investigating the matter and I'm hopeful we can find the perpetrators of this very heinous offense."
Jo-
"Should the neighbors be seeing any police patrols within the area until things die down?"
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
"Absolutely and this is really unfortunate because it comes literally on the heels of us having a handing over ceremony just a few days ago because we realized that crime is now extending into the rural areas and so our focus is there so we allocated a mobile for the Burrell boom area and that mobile has been in use unfortunately it was not near the fresh pond area of this incident but absolutely you can expect to see more patrols in the river valley."
