And as the wildfires continue to rage, and the heat continues to be almost unbearable, there may be some assistance from Mother Nature this weekend. The National MET Service is optimistic that starting Thursday, we'll be getting some much needed rains. The Chief Meteorologist explained on Sunup on 7 yesterday that it was an incredibly dry May, and he's hopeful this weekend will be a wet one.
Ronald Gordon, Chief Meteorologist
"It has been very very dry as you rightly said so we haven't analyzed the data as yes, we just we just came out of May but we're going to look at the data and the official data coming in from our manual weather stations because we do have automatic weather stations that transmit to us in real time. However we are still testing those out so to speak, so we are going to compare them with the actual manual stations and see what the figures are, but from what I have seen it has been extremely dry May up to about the 27th it was completely zeros. There was no rain across these stations and then last week as we rightly said we had a few what you call scattered showers or a few showers isolated showers. We did have a few coming on in Thursday as we had expected and into Friday and then it had become dry again. In terms of the predictions cautiously optimistic that around Thursday of this week we're going to see an increase in showers one of our models is indicating that we are going to see an increase in showers Thursday Friday right into the weekend and it may be a rather wet weekend at last."
