The Minister of Home Affairs attended the Compstat Quarterly Review and acknowledged that murders are wya up - according to our numbers by 44%.

But, like the Commissioner, he consoled himself by quoting historical statistics:

Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs

"As you rightly mentioned Courtney it is an increase over last year which we have mentioned on numerous occasions was a record year. Not dating back to 2005 we have such good numbers in terms of the homicide rate so it is comparable to the two previous years of 2022 and 2021 but we are by now means satisfied with that we have to continue having homicides trending downwards like the other major crimes, robbery, theft and burglaries those are all trending down and we want to get the homicide rate under control the same way we did last year if you could recall we had several months go by I think towards the end of the year August, September, October in which we had maybe one or two murders those were very impressive numbers and we want to get those numbers back on stream. We anticipate over the next two three months we should have a decrease in the number of murders but at the same time we are not letting up whatsoever we are applying the pressure at all the pressure points and making sure that we have the most efficient police strategies being employed. And that is essentially the reason and purpose for strategic sessions like this the Compstat meets Eve try quarter not only for us to review the data that we have gathered but to translate that into making the necessary adjustments on the ground in terms of our operations and pressure points and so that is the reason for having these sessions like this one today."
