And while the commissioner now accepts that Melendez went into the police station and got a medico legal form - and was not - as he falsely claimed on Wednesday - dodging the police - today he still doubled down and said that Melendez remains a fugitive.
Here's how he explained that Melendez became wanted after he made the visit to the station:
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

"After the incident occurred, the young men, the two young men did not go to the police station right away, they went until the following evening and now after the incident occurred with Sergeant Makin the young man went to the station and made a report. But at that particular time the police did not receive that report from the two minors so they did not detain him. They issued him with the Medico form and then he was sent to the doctor. By the time he finished with the medico form the minors and the parents came in the evening and gave their statements."
Melendez's attorney maintains that his client is not wanted - and that he has requested court action against Makin.
