And while that accident claimed 4 lives - another, in the south claimed 3.

It happened on Friday night at around 7:00 when a head-on collision sent members of the Tush family from Aguacate flying to the pavement at high speeds.

Shantel Neal has the story:

This was the devastating scene on the Southern Highway near Eldridgeville on Friday night. Debris scattered everywhere, one man trapped behind the wheel and bodes strewn across the road.

51 year old Jose Tush was driving his family in this Toyota pickup when he crashed head on into a Ford F 350.

ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED

"On Friday the 12th day July police responded to a fatal road traffic accident between the villages of Elridge Ville and Jacinto Ville, in the Toledo district. Upon arrival they saw a Ford 350 pick up and a Toyota pickup, extensively damaged. Several persons received injuries and they were taken for treatment. Thereafter police visited the hospital where Renieta Tush, Jose Tush and Tyrone Tush were all pronounced dead at the Punta Gorda hospital. Investigation is being carried out into this fatal road traffic accident and the other driver is receiving treatment at this time."

Renieta Tush was 17, and Tyrone Tush was 5 - both of them were flung to the pavement.

While the full cause of the weekend crash remains under investigation, Romero reveals that one driver may have been driving under the influence of alcohol.

ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"The information is that the person was overtaking and did not make it on time and collided into the other vehicle."

"Initial investigation is revealing that one of the drivers for one of the vehicles was consuming alcoholic beverages earlier, but we will await the results from the blood test that will be done."

"Statements will be recorded as several persons were injured and are getting treatment at the hospital and at the end of the investigation we will make a determination on what will happen next."

The People's National Party has called on the Ministry of Infrastructure to..."allocate necessary funds to properly demarcate the lines on the Thomas Vincent Highway." They say, quote, "This crucial road, particularly the stretch near Elridgeville village where the recent accident occurred, is dangerously dark and lacks essential traffic markings…lines on this highway were washed away more than twenty years ago and have never been repainted."
