Two fatal accidents left 7 persons dead over the weekend. The most recent incident occurred Sunday morning between miles 46 and 47 on the Philip Goldson highway. That accident involved two vehicles, and in the end, four persons were dead, and two are left in critical condition.
Courtney Menzies traveled north today and has this story.
Four lives were lost in a road traffic accident on the Philip Goldson Highway over the weekend.
It was around 6:30 on Sunday morning when a grey Mitsubishi headed towards Belize City collided with a black Pontiac that was coming in the opposite direction. Initial reports state that it was the driver of the Pontiac, 39-year-old Jesus Chi, that lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the Mitsubishi, which was driven by 41-year-old Cecilia De Jesus Arana.
Arana and his son passed away, along with two others from the Chi family.
ACP Romero explained what the police saw when they arrived on the scene.

ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"Police responded where they saw a Mitsubishi Montero vehicle and a Pontiac SUV extremely damaged. Persons were treated and taken to the KHMH. At the scene police also saw the lifeless body of a female. At the conclusion police then visited the hospital where it was confirmed that Cecilio Arana, Aurora Chi, Gustavo Chi, Allan Arana all passed away as a result of the fatal RT., A police officer Andy Garcia received serious injuries and is being treated and is in critical condition at this time."
And while both the Arana and Chi families were too distraught to speak, the friends and family of PC Andy Garcia, who was in the Mitsubishi with Arana, are asking for support in the form of blood donations as he recovers in the hospital. He sustained a broken foot, several cuts to the face and other injuries.
Police have not yet determined who is to blame:
ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"Again this matter is under investigation the scene was processed, sketch plan was drawn and we will review the files later to see who is at fault and if any charges will be levied but all persons are receiving treatment at this time."
Gustavo Chi was a teacher at Orange Walk Technical High School, and Aurora Chi was described as an "icon" in San Jose Nuevo Palmar.
