A former school security guard who was posted at the Anglican Cathedral College, today pleaded guilty to burglarizing his now workplace.
It happened sometime between Friday, September 28, 2023 and Monday, October 2, 2023. 49-year-old Donovan Franzua took the plea after evidence in the form of surveillance video which captured him burglarizing the Teachers Staff Room and stealing a JBL Speaker valued at $300 and $90 cash. Franzua, who is a first time offender, was spared from jail with a non-custodial sentence and fined $1,500 which he must pay by December 1st 2024 or face four months imprisonment in default. Franzua was unrepresented in court. Neither the items nor cash were recovered by police.
Students tell us that cell phones confiscated by the school were also stolen at some point - and the school had to reimburse the students for the value of their stolen phones.
