A 64 year old man is facing the possibility of spending 7 years in jail after he allegedly asked a 10 year old child for sex and offered to pay her two dollars for it.
Hattieville resident Leo Smith is remanded awaiting sentencing after being found guilty of sexual assault late this evening. Smith appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #6. In December of 2024, he was accused of stripping the child and asking her for sex. When he told the child he would give her $2 dollars, she ran away and managed to escape. She later told her mother what had happened and Smith was charged with one count of sexual assault.
At the trial, the child explained to the court what happened and her mother confirmed her testimony. The Magistrate said the child was unshaken and credible and found Smith guilty of the charge.
When Smith heard the verdict and that he would be remanded pending sentencing, he almost fell down in court, still shocked at the verdict. Smith said he will be appealing the conviction. In his defense, Smith claims he only visited the house to deliver some seafood and accidentally stepped on the child's foot.
