There was a scary situation this morning before dawn on the seas of northern Ambergris Caye, likely caused by persons known as "playadores" - who comb the northern beaches of Ambergris Caye for drugs.
At 4:30 am, a 23 year old fisherman named Elizear Aldana and a friend were out on the sea fishing in the Tranquility Bay area when they were intercepted by a boat. Four men boarded Aldana's boat and told them that he didn't want to see them in that area and began threatening them.
Aldana took off towards a nearby resort and that was when the crew on the other boat set chase after them and began firing shots at them.
Aldana managed to dock at the resort and hid there.
When he checked his boat later, it had been hauled across the reef and set on fire. The boat later drifted to the beach where it then sank.
