Tonight, a 30 year old woman police corporal is in the KHMH waiting for a complex hip replacement surgery after she was knocked down a week ago.
But, the incident has gone un-reported - and would have probably been left that way if we didn't get a tip and check it on our security cameras today. Tonight Jules Vasquez has the story of how careless police driving led to the corporal's serious injury:
Police Corporal Georgiana Bartley was coming off shift at about 11:55 pm on the night of Tuesday October 22nd when she slammed into the police pickup - driven by SPU officers.
It happened at the corner of Dean and Albert right in front of our studio and the camera shows clearly that the police failed to stop at the stop sign - and then stopped in the middle of the street. She was coming at what appears to be high speed and pulled brakes, but could not stop and slid sideways on the wet pavement - and slammed into the mobile, flying into the air and landing on the street.
She was badly injured and the clueless cops - who didn't put on their lights or hazards - took four excruciating minutes to get her into the backseat, and after dawdling around for another three minutes, then drove off, against traffic, still without any lights on.
Precedent has established that regardless of the speed she was traveling - the vehicle on Albert street has the right of way - and the police mobile clearly failed to stop at the sign.
Reports tell us the corporal's hip was shattered and tonight she is in the KHMH awaiting a complex surgery which will take months of recovery.
Police have issued no statement on the accident and have said nothing about whether blood or urine samples were taken from the officers who appeared very confused on the scene.
We did ask police for a report on the accident today but none was provided.
