She partially blinded her 7 year old son by striking him with a knife, now, a mother of four has been declared mentally unfit to stand trial for maim. 38-year-old Natalie Palacio was today declared unfit by a jury of nine in the High Court. After deliberating for just under half an hour, the jury returned a unanimous verdict this morning, finding that Palacio was "insane and not fit for trial." As a result, she was released from custody, free of charges. Palacio was facing a charge of maim, after she allegedly struck her son in the eye in April of 2022, causing him to lose vision in one eye. The court held a fitness hearing to determine whether she was mentally capable of standing trial, following multiple evaluations with a psychiatrist from the Ministry of Health. Ultimately, the jurors agreed that the accused mother was not mentally capable of understanding the proceedings or instructing her defense, leading to the unanimous verdict that brought the case to a close.
