Gold plated guns - they are a totem of power in the underworld - reserved for gang bosses and drug lords, and police in Independence village believe one of them may also be behind a series of shootings in the village.
On Saturday police searched an abandoned zinc bungalow structure located in the Noralez Extension Area of Independence Village. They found a gold 9mm Sig Sauer pistol with a magazine containing two live rounds of 9mm ammunition as well as an additional 33 live rounds of 9 mm ammunition.
Police release says this weapon is suspected to have been used in a number of shootings in that area and has since been sealed and submitted to the Forensic Service for comparative analysis to ballistic samples taken from other shootings in the area. Reports say it may have also been used in the New Year's Eve mass shooting in the village - which was related to a drug turf battle.
