A 23 year old man walked free from a murder charge on Monday after spending 8 months on remand. Jamal Brackett was accused of killing 61 year old Carlos Avelar on Coney Drive back in May of last year. Avelar was shot by two men on a motorcycle.

However, the case was withdrawn. Brackett's attorney Ronnell Gonzalez explained why.

Ronell Gonzalez, Attorney
"Today was actually set for PI, a preliminary inquiry into the matter. It was ruled by the magistrate that the matter is being withdrawn because the court had been in receipt of a directive for the matter to be withdrawn at this time."

"It has been about 8 months ago he was accused of the murder that took place on Coney Drive and the issue seemed to have been an issue concerning identification. And therefore grateful to the DPP's office for issuing such directive at this time."

Jamal Brackets, Walked Free
"It feels good thanks to Mr Gonz."
