A security guard doing his job was murdered by men trying to break into parked vehicles at the BWSL compound in Ladyville.
But why did they kill Darwin Valerio? Jaleeza Roberts spoke with his father:
This morning, Police were scouring a murder scene at the BWS warehouse in Lord's Bank Village. That's where security guard 35 year old Darwin Valerio was targeted by an armed robbers sometime early this morning.
Valerio was working the overnight shift along with another guard.
At approximately 8:20 p.m., he told his colleague he was heading out to conduct a routine compound check. He never returned.
Police got a call after 1:00 am that shots had been fired in the area. When they responded, they found Valerio lying face down inside the compound with multiple gunshot wounds.
Best information says that 3 robbers were trying to get to vehicles parked in the compound - and Valerio saw them. He tried to retreat and get his coworker and they shot him.
His father saw the footage:
Domingo Valerio, Father of the Deceased

"Three guys came and ambushed him. He ran because I saw a little footage when he ran, but he fell and when he fell, they went over him and shot him."
Reporter "Do you believe that it could've been a targeted attack or was it a robbery that went wrong?"
Domingo Valerio, Father of the Deceased
"I wouldn't say because... I would say targeted because then who would jump over a fence to thief cement or, um, pipes? You know, so it's more like a targeted thing."
Now a family is left to mourn the murder of their first born child who has since been described with words like "humble and hardworking":
Domingo Valerio, Father of the Deceased
"Darwin was a humble son of mine. Grew up under discipline and a, a family-oriented individual. Every day, he would check up on everybody, you know? Once he recall about a member of the family, he would always call and he was more closer to the mom than myself."
And what was your immediate reaction when you got the news about your son?
Domingo Valerio, Father of the Deceased
"Well, the immediate reaction was tears so that I could be stronger for my wife."
But, this grieving father is maintaining a practical approach about what comes next:
Reporter
"And so how do you guys plan to move on from this as a family?"
Domingo Valerio, Father of the Deceased
"Well, we have already discussed and we're waiting for the autopsy to finalize."
Jaleeza Roberts, 7 News.
At this time, no suspects have been named.
BWSL has expressed its condolences, adding that Valerio was a contracted guard and employee of Ranger Security & Surveillance Ltd.
