We also asked the PM about Rhett Kenagy, the American oilman who was found with a weapon at the Phillip Goldson airport as he was leaving the country on his private jet. He was allowed to leave without charges, which suggests big strings pulled. But today PM Briceno said he had no involvement:

John Briceno, Prime Minister
"I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about more than what you have in the news. I have never met this gentleman, I have never spoken to him but I'm sure if he had some in and asked for an appointment, quite likely to invest in Belize quite likely I'd have listened to him. I have been told by the minister of police that he had a licensed firearm from the United States and either he did not know you have to report it in Belize or that he simply forgot. So what did we do? We confiscated the weapon and the bullets and we handed it over to the US Embassy and he was able to go home."
