And there was another murder in the south - which happened on Friday night in Dangriga.
Bernardo Gorosica was a fisherman and a prominent figure from the Salty Dog area. Townspeople say he was a gang leader - but his common law says he was a doting father.
But - whichever he truly was - on Friday evening - a killer lay in wait for him and released a barrage of gunfire at the 34 year old.
Jaleeza Roberts has this report:
3 boys will need to take up the responsibility of being breadwinners as their father, 34 year old Bernaldo Gorosica was killed in Dangriga Town on Friday evening.
Stacy Smith, Staff Officer

"The investigation commenced on Friday 6th February 2026 at approximately 6:12pm when police were alerted to the sound of gunshots being fired on South Riverside Street in Dangriga Town. Officers from the crimes investigation branch along with the quick response team responded to the area where they observed the unresponsive body of Gorosica with apparent gunshot wounds. Initial investigations have revealed that Gorosica was walking along South Riverside Street at the aforementioned date and time when an individual who was traveling in a grey-silver like Chevrolet vehicle without license plates fired several shots in his direction. A police operation was immediately launched by the QRT personnel and this led to a silver Chevrolet being pursued and intercepted near the outskirts of Dangriga Town. A male person was observed exiting the vehicle and making good his escape in the bushy terrain of that area. The vehicle has since been impounded and the identity of the registered owner has been ascertained. one person who police believe can assist in this investigation has been detained and another individual is being sought in connection with this ongoing investigation."
"No motive has been established so far."
And while it clearly looks like a gang related hit, the mother of his children, Shantel Waight described Gorosica as a loving father of five:

So why would they want this father of 5 dead? Well that's what this family is trying to understand. Despite being no stranger to the law, Waight consoles herself with how she remembers him.
Voice of: Shantel Waight, Mother of Children
"If he have this kind of friend where you say, oh, this person is a bad person or that person is a bad person, you have to eliminate he from the bad list and whatsoever. Because his friend could do this or do that, but he no wa do that. That da no fi he hobby. He like go da caye. He enjoy his life going to Caye, chilling with his kids.
