A 39-year-old Santa Elena woman has been remanded to prison after allegedly attacking a nurse and a patient inside the KHMH earlier this week.
Dulce Portillo, of Santa Elena, Cayo, appeared unrepresented before Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison today, where she was charged with aggravated assault against Registered Nurse Viviana Lino.
The incident occurred on Monday at around 8:15 p.m. inside the Surgical Ward at the KHMH.
Nurse Lino was alerted by a relative that Portillo was inside a room slapping a patient. When she went to investigate, she allegedly saw Portillo striking the patient in the face. Nurse Lino intervened and Portillo allegedly responded aggressively, pushing the nurse and escalating the confrontation into a physical altercation.
Portillo allegedly grabbed an IV pole and attempted to strike Nurse Lino with it. The nurse managed to flee the room and alerted hospital security. Police were subsequently called to the scene.
Portillo was later detained and formally charged. In court, she denied the allegation, but was cautioned by the magistrate against making statements that could incriminate her.
Portillo was granted bail of $2,000, however, she could not meet it and was remanded to Prison until June 10th.
