And while police have no motives as yet, they're investigating two angles. However, they stressed that Dr Bonilla did not seem to be involved in any nefarious activities. ASP Stacy Smith spoke with us via Zoom today.

"Bonilla was onboard his vehicle on Ramirez Avenue when his vehicle was overtaken by another vehicle which stopped in front of Dr Bonilla's vehicle. An armed male person is reported to have exited that vehicle and fired several shots which resulted in the fatal injury of Dr Bonilla. Police have retrieved a number of video footage which we believe will be of use to this ongoing investigation."
"The investigators are also following up on two leads as it relates to motive, neither of which suggests Dr Bonilla's involvement in nefarious activities."

"Is one of the motives related to a civil case that Dr Bonilla had against a business partner of his?"

"The information that we have disclosed is the extent to which we have disclosed as I believe you can appreciate it's an ongoing investigation and we don't want to speak too much in such a way that it may prejudice the investigation."
The Ministry of Health, the BMDA, and the Garden City Medical Center all issued statements of condolences.
