Belize health authorities are ramping up screening measures across all border checkpoints, airports, and seaports in response to an ongoing Ebola outbreak in East and Central Africa.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness issued a public advisory today confirming that while there are currently no suspected cases of the virus within the country, it is initiating "heightened public health vigilance" as a strict precautionary measure.

The government emphasizes that the immediate risk to the public remains low. However, to prevent any potential introduction of the virus, the Ministry is actively coordinating a multi-agency response - working alongside immigration and customs, the Belize Airport Authority, border management, civil aviation, commercial airlines, and cruise lines to strengthen arrival screening and emergency response protocols.

The Ministry has instructed anyone who has recently traveled to an affected area and begins experiencing symptoms to avoid close contact with others and immediately call the official health hotline at 0-800-MOH-CARE to arrange for safe medical evaluation.
