There were no formal classes today for most primary school students, and that is because instead of the classrooms, thousands of school children from across the country marched and rallied in the streets and in auditoriums. As usual, the annual school children's rally was a spectacular show of talent and patriotism in perhaps its purest form. Keith Swift reports from the City Center where Belize City children rallied.

While the adults may fuss and bicker over what we should be patriotic about in this September celebration season, today in the City Center there was no historical nitpicking, it was just a sea of flags waving in unison as hundreds

of primary school students showed that September is about that intangible celebratory spirit.

[Children Chanting: 'The Baymen's Glory']

Trust me the spirit inside the City Center didn't come from a song book, this was from the heart. And though you had the Minister of Education and Culture, the Deputy Chief Education Officer, and even the Queen of the Bay, today it was their turn to sit because it was the children's chance to show off their

patriotism. Bethel Primary Students did a poem. And then there was this skit from students at Saint Ignatius Primary School...which later erupted an all out dance number.

And before it was all over, the Anglican Cathedral College marching band took

center stage. Ebenezer Primary School also debuted its marching band.

Capping off a morning filled with patriotism and talent, was a tribute to Beatrice Smith, which brought the career educator to tears.

Beatrice Smith,
"I am humbled. Thank you all."

After the City Center, the children marched back to their schools where they were sent home with a bag of goodies.
