Last night we showed you the efforts of SATIIM (See SATIIM in Action) as they are trying to halt the unmitigated plunder of natural resources in the Sarstoon Temash National Park. We also showed you a huge fishing net that was cast across the entire breadth of the mouth of the Sarstoon River. Well yesterday the illegal net was pulled out of the water by the Toledo District Fisheries Department. It has been confiscated and is being held at the department office. But the three fishermen who own the nets now say they want them back and they have gone to the man who represents them, the Minister of Fisheries Mike Espat to ask for his intervention. Still, up to this evening, that produced nothing and the net remains in the custody of the Fisheries Department.
