In Belize their name may not be as familiar as Stone Love, but on the international scene dub plate DJ sound system, "Mighty Crown" is well established, often playing to huge crowds in Japan, the U.S. and Europe. Now the Mighty Crown is in town and one of the members stopped by our studios to tell us what they are all about.

Ninja,
"I'm the only black guy that's ever going to be on Mighty Crown. I am here today and Sam is coming in tomorrow because we flew from different places. He is flying in from Jamaica and I came from New York so he's going to be here tomorrow. Everybody who loves dancehall music, reggae music, once you love reggae music; hip-hop, reggae, soca music, whatever it is you love because we going to play everything for everybody."

Alfonso Noble,
Explain how this works because they are Japanese and my brain is telling me that Japan and reggae music don't together.

Ninja,
"No man, in Japan now reggae music is the biggest thing. You don't understand the language sometimes but you understand the beat so they go for the beats because we have a reggae show every year in Japan and we get like fifty thousand people who just listen to reggae music. They don't care what you saying, they just know the beat is good. They know from Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, and all those old people. They say they love the reggae music and new artists like Sizzla, Beenie Man, all the Rasta man artists they love."

Alfonso Noble,
Is this like a box, is this a box basically?

Ninja,
"We play the music."

Alfonso Noble,
So we won't be hearing any original songs?

Ninja,
"No we won't be performing and we won't be deejaying any original songs. We will just play the music you know already, play it in my way and you'll know its my style, dub plate style. We trying to circle the whole Caribbean and spread the music we have. Everybody does their own thing and we're trying to let the people in Belize know that we have our thing and our thing is good too.

You'll be surprised to see Japanese guys play reggae music so good, better than even Jamaican people do, because they study the art so good, hen you go to Japan, all they hear is reggae music, if you live in Japan."

Mighty Crown will be playing in this weekend in the city.
