The annual Miss St. John's Anglican School pageant will be held tomorrow night at the Parish Hall. Sure it may not have the prestige of the Miss Belize Pageant or the popularity of the "Miss Y" pageant but it is for a good cause. The theme this year is Caribbean countries and the five contestants will be representing the Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Jamaica and of course Belize. This year organizers have also flipped the script with a twist that might surprise you. Here's a preview.
Keith Swift Reporting,
Meet the contestants for this year's Miss St. John's Anglican School pageant. There is no need to adjust your television, you are seeing correctly, the contestants this year are adults - parents and teachers. Michelle Williams is the organizer.
Michelle Williams, Organizer
"It is an annual pageant that we have with children but this year it will be different because it will be made up of teachers and parents. The Parent Teacher's Association wanted to do this and so we decided we wanted to be different this year so we said let us give it a try and see what will happen."
Miriam Paz and Keisha Garbutt are teachers at St. John's Anglican School and they are also contestants in this year's pageant.
Keisha Garbutt, Contestant
"First this was supposed to be a parents' pageant but unfortunately two of the contestants were unable to join so we decided that St. John's Anglican School is our school so we decided to take part and be the additional two contestants to vie for the title of Miss St. John's."
Miriam Paz, Contestant
"She said it, that's why we are here - helping the school and the children."
Keith Swift,
What can people expect tomorrow night?
Miriam Paz,
"Everything."
Keisha Garbutt,
"My talent is really going to be off the hook so you got to come out, support us, and come and have a night of fun with the St. John's family."
And support is critical because Williams says the money is needed to keep the school open.
Michelle Williams,
"The funds from this pageant will be used for the upkeep of the school because we are in dire need of funds to pay our bills and everyday running of the school."
Again the pageant is tomorrow night at the Parish Hall. Showtime is 7 pm.
