We're in the midst of the September celebrations and one event that always draws an eager crowd is the school children's rally. As is the tradition, students from primary schools across the city poured into the City Center and celebrated Belize with youthful verve and enthusiasm. 7NEWS was there for the flag waving festival.

Keith Swift Reporting,
This morning the city center was filled with hundreds of screaming children. They came from about a dozen primary schools in the city and they were in the City Center for the annual children's rally. The children were in control this year - beginning with emcee Aaron Atock - the 3rd top finisher in this year's PSE. Goolue Xie - who placed second in the PSE did the welcome.

"As a successful candidate of the 2007 PSE, I would like to take the time to encourage students to recognize how important it is to pay attention in class, take notes, study, and do your homework. I know its hard but if you take the time and do that, put your mind to it, you can become successful. Thanks and once again welcome and enjoy."

And while Education Minister Francis Fonseca was there, the main address was from Xux Ek Bovelo - this year's top finisher in the PSE.

"Work hard for what you want and live your life for success. Be independent, strong, and free. Happy birthday Belize. Long live Belize. Repeat after me and lift your flags up in the air, long live Belize."

And while the speeches were good, the rally was about celebrating Belizean culture and St. Martin's Deporres Primary School did it with this dance.

St. Ignatius Primary School also did a dance. They called it "the Door to the Future."

The rally was capped off with a performance by Joey Lawrence. This was his first public performance since winning last weekend's patriotic song competition.
