As we mentioned, Errollyn Wallen will perform on Saturday at a benefit concert for the Hand in Hand Ministries. The charity is celebrating its fifth year in Belize. Director Mark Thessing says they've accomplished a lot.
Mark Thessing, Director
"We've built over 80 homes for people in need. We are talking about people who have been living in this squalor conditions, single parents, elderly, people who have some type of handicap, people who are affected by HIV and Aids. We've been able to meet the grassroots kind of population. Another program that we're really proud of, that we got off the ground in December of 2004, is the outreach center which is a center for children affected by HIV and Aids and we started with about 5 children and now we've grown to over 18 students at the center. And that center has done a tremendous and has made a tremendous impact on the community because it deals with the wholistoc health of every child."
Keith Swift,
Why should people come to the benefit concert?
Mark Thessing,
"People should come to the concert who love music, people should come to the benefit concert who have been a follow of Hand in Hand."
And while they've accomplished a lot, they want to do much more. But to do it, they need funds. Tickets for Saturday's show are on sale at the Bliss. Showtime is at 7 pm.
