And it's a government that's been much bullied recently. First, it had to cave in on the dubious oil production sharing agreements, then it had to revoke the Bacalar Chico deal, and now it has had to backtrack on new border management fees in the west. After a four day standoff, the Border Management Agency today announced that it was suspending the controversial new fees until at least Monday. That's when all stakeholders are set to have a meeting in Belmopan.

The logjam of cargo trucks that had been developing at the Benque border has now been cleared - without the brokers or importers having to pay the new fees. A release from border management indicates that it is still believes in the new charges, but with government already caving in to the brokers demand - it's apparent that the pre-election resolve is weak.
