Canadian do gooders are on a roll. Last week they were in Hope Creek building new homes for flood victims, on Wednesday they donated an old car to IT-VET, and this week members of the Canada Youth Mission from Ontario are hosting Bible classes and sports camps mixed into one for youths in Belize City and mile 8. Sean O’Byrne is the team leader.

“We are running several sports camps for the children in a number of different areas. We had soccer camp at 8 miles and we had a basketball tournament here in Belize City and we plan to run the basketball and soccer camps in Burrel Boom as well.

It seems very natural for the kids to do some activity outside and then also to do some crafts and learn something with their hands and to also to sing songs and I have to say you’re very musical here and you’re people have been teaching us a lot as well, including a couple of really nice songs. So there is really an exchange of cultures and it has been really special.

We hope that they would treasure the friendships with our young people because our young people go through the same struggles that the kids here do and I hope that they can see that there is people just like them in other parts of the world and we also have a programs called Bible for Belize and we are trying to provide bibles for every one of the participants and we are hoping that they would come to appreciate and treasure God’s word as well.”

The 14 youths return to Ontario Canada later this week but they will be replaced by a second team which will work in the Burrell Boom area.
