The Sarstoon Temash Institute for Indigenous Management - or SATIIM for short - is congratulating Jalacte for its Supreme Court victory in protecting their customary land rights.

SATIIM notes that the claimants in the case, which included the Village, Jose Ical, and Estevan Ca'al, have received another confirmation to, quote, "follow the international standard of Free, Prior and Informed Consent to ensure transparent agreements with Maya villages". End quote.

In a second press release, SATIIM, Toledo Maya Cultural Council (TMCC), and Kekchi Council of Belize are calling on the Julian Cho Society, the Maya Leaders Alliance, and its advisors on the Land Tenure Facility to follow the recommendations of the Caribbean Court of Justice to welcome input from other Maya groups.

SATIIM asserts that the Julian Cho Society received more than a million dollars from the Land Tenure Facility to facilitate community consultations on Maya land tenure. The organization insists that the Julian Cho Society is insisting to only consult with representatives of the Toledo Alcalde Association, which has reportedly resulted in conflict and division among Maya communities.
