Belize has recorded its third COVID related death in a week - and all three are from Orange Walk District. The first occurred over the weekend, the second on Wednesday, and tonight, the Ministry of Health is reporting another. The death toll is rising at an alarming rate compared to the last few months when it was moving glacially.

Tonight, that toll is at 328, and our active numbers are in the triple digits with 109. This is after ten new cases were discovered over the past two days.

Information officer at the Ministry of Health, Claudette Dakers Norales, has today's full breakdown.

Last night, the Ministry of Health reported that 1,025 had been vaccinated yesterday. The means that a total of 76,148 people have received at least their first dose and 21,256 are fully vaccinated.

Globally, 20.9 percent of the world's population has received at least one dose of the COVID 19 vaccine, but only 0.8% of people in low income countries have gotten a dose.
