Today, women from all over the world joined to celebrate and observe International Women's Day, under the theme "Break the Bias". Here in Belize, women were proudly displaying their personal milestones and achievements in careers and professions that are traditionally male-dominated.

But, even though the Belizean society has matured to become more accepting, inclusive, and tolerant, there are still gender inequality issues that confront our young democracy. Domestic Violence is still a big problem, and the United Democratic Party is currently in transition to select a new Party Leader as a result of a domestic violence complaint. And then, there is still a major disparity between the total female population in Belize, and the number of elected women leaders.

Today, we got a chance to speak with the President of the National Women's Commission on the importance of Women's Day in confronting these difficult conversations about inequality. Here's what she told us:

There is an official calendar of events that will span the entire month of March, which is recognized as Women's Month.
