The Misuse of Drugs Amendment Bill of 2021… It is a draft piece of legislation that came from the Briceno Administration as a means of creating a properly recognized and regulated marijuana and hemp industry in Belize. But, over the last few months, it has undergone some major changes.
After listening to the concerns coming from some quarters of the society, as well as the issues raised by the Senate, the government has a number of changes. Those changes also included turning the proposed amendments into its own bill that focuses directly on marijuana.
After a number of iterations on the proposed improvement, Cabinet gave its support last Friday, for the amendment to be tabled at the next sitting of the House of Representatives on March 15th. It is now known as the Cannabis Control and Licensing Bill of 2022,
The government says that the adoption of this Cannabis Control Bill will provide for the control and licensing of the Cannabis industry. It will also establish the necessary legislative framework to govern and regulate the cultivation, processing, distribution, and delivery of Cannabis products for adult use only.
