The Belize Council of Churches released a statement today expressing this disapproval of the proposed plan of the September Celebrations Committee to have the citizens' parade on Sunday, September 10th while churches will be in session for Sunday mass.

Their release details that "Not only is Sunday a recognized day of worship for the churches, but the very proposed time and route of the parade will seriously disrupt the well-established and long-standing worship services of several churches. Moreover, it will deny our members, and their families, the opportunity to worship peacefully on a Sunday – a day we are fully aware has been reserved for such. This is totally unacceptable and shows disdain for an institution that is an integral part of the fabric of society and has also served this country for Centuries." The churches believe that the decision to carry through with the tenth of September citizens parade on Sunday displays a lack of disrespect towards the institution and its followers.

We reached out to the Chairman of the National Celebrations Commission who said he had not been apprised of the dispute.
