He fought in World War II and today, one Belizean veteran is celebrating his 100th birthday.

Rudolph Middleton blew out his candles today at a small birthday party that had guests including the former and the current Governors General. Courtney Menzies was also there and has this story.

Rudolph Middleton was once a World War II veteran, but today, he became a centenarian. He celebrated his 100th birthday at the Ex-Services League Headquarters, and we asked him the key to reaching triple digits.

"I feel good because it shows what type of person I am and what I've been through and raised up to be so I feel good about it."

Courtney Menzies:
"What would you say is the secret to living so long?"

"Well, I exercise, well I was in the army, and that kept me active. And after I left the army, I worked, kept active. That's what got me up so long."

"I was a private, I went up to when we went oversees in Egypt, they changed me from what I was and let me be a guy that goes out and search for the enemy, that they have, the battalion. And I went through that and that's what kept up everything."

And he also had some words of advice for the youth, which includes a level of modesty that, may seem antiquarian Gen Z.

"As for young people, is to keep going out respectfully. Respect elders and respect yourself. Dress to suit as they used to dress when I was young. The young ladies they wear the dress to the knee and under the dress they have the skirt and they used to be respected."

"It was quiet, and there was a few killings but not like what is going on today."

"Well it's the world, because not just Belize, I think it's the whole world going through this."
