And while the UDP is committed to what it calls the pyramid approach - we asked - why even launch a manifesto - when most people hardly have the attention span to read a text message properly?
Here's what the mayoral candidate said:
Jules Vasquez
"As far as anyone can find out, the PUP has not launched a manifesto, the PUP city council slate has not launched a manifesto. Obviously, something has happened that somebody said, bwai dem thing no matter anymore."
"What is your interpretation of this and why are you all still forging ahead with a manifesto?"
Nelma Mortis, UDP Mayoral Candidate
"We are a new team and we understand, personally I understand the demographics of Belize City. So I believe that I will not take my people for granted."
"I am here to serve. And in serving, we give respect to our people. I think that is one of the problems of the People's United Party. They take their voters for granted. And so we made this and present this to our people so that they can hold us accountable."
Jules Vasquez
"Explain to me how you are dealing with something as weighty as a manifesto in the era of distraction."
Nelma Mortis, UDP Mayoral Candidate
"We have made two versions of the manifesto and a bridge version in which when we go out into the community, which is something still very effective, you politicians out there, the people want that relationship, that one and one, that belongingness."
"This is effective for that demographic of people. On the other hand, though, we are going green space, green economy, that sort of thing. And so we are using a different model. We are not using the old traditional model of a platform as per norm."
"So I believe you have to have a plan. If you don't have a plan, then you plan to fail."
