And for our next story we took a deep dig into our archive. With all the talk about going back to a telecoms monopoly - we went into our archive to 2001 - when there really was a monopoly - and a group called the Committee for Action on Public Utilities, or CAPU which led spirited, non-political protests against BTL - after it implemented rate increases. It was owned at the time by the Ashcroft Alliance - which only gave the protests greater fuel.We have put together reports from December 05, and December 18 of 2001, which were days of anger in the streets of Belize City:
CAPU continued the fight long after these protests but did not get the rates rolled back.
And finally tonight, in an effort to encourage sportsmanship and a love for football among children. The warriors football club of Corozal town organized a friendly football tournament this past weekend for kids between the ages of 7-15 years, an event they call the "Friendly Challenge." 10
football teams participated in the event, both girls and boys. The Warriors FC in partnership with the National Sports Council is expected to host another tournament next month. The Warriors FC won first place in the under 12 for boys and under 15 for girls, with San Narciso RC coming in 2nd for both categories.
