Belize's new minimum wage goes into effect on April first, and 1,500 Belizeans who work in the Corozal Free Zone are entitled to get that new wage as well. That's the message that the Minister of State for Labour Valdemar Castillo took to the Free Zone yesterday. Castillo and ministry officials held a forum to educate zone workers about their rights.
Only 75 of that 1500 attended but according to a government release they were educated about their right to adequate compensation, particularly for work done on holidays. After the presentations there was a lively question and answer session, where zone workers asked about their right to form unions in the zone.
